Custom CF Bellows for Leybold TURBOLAB Vacuum Systems

When a CF connection on an existing vacuum system needs a new bellows, the main problem is often not the flange size.

The installation length may be different. The vacuum chamber may have been moved. A valve or other component may have been added. Or the original bellows may simply need to be replaced.

For these situations, a custom bellows can be made according to the existing installation instead of forcing the system to use a standard length.

Leybold TURBOLAB systems with DN 100 CF

Leybold lists several TURBOLAB Core 250 i configurations with a DN 100 CF (6″) inlet.

For example:

Leybold also lists TURBOLAB 250 i systems with DN 100 CF configurations, including versions using different backing-pump arrangements.

The equipment model and part number are useful starting points when identifying an existing system. The bellows itself, however, still needs to match the actual connection and installation.

When a standard bellows is not the right length

Suppose a TURBOLAB system is already connected to a vacuum chamber through a DN 100 CF connection.

The original bellows may have worked when the system was first installed, but the installation may later change.

The chamber could be moved farther away. Another valve could be installed. The available space could become smaller.

In these cases, replacing the surrounding piping just to accommodate a standard bellows may not make sense.

A custom-length CF bellows can instead be made to suit the required distance between the two connection points.

Replacing an existing bellows

If the original bellows needs replacement, the easiest starting point is usually the original component.

We can work from:

  • Equipment model
  • Original part number
  • CF flange size
  • Overall length
  • Flange configuration
  • Bellows diameter
  • Material
  • Drawing
  • Sample
  • Installation measurements

A photo can help with initial identification, but dimensions or a drawing are preferred before production.

The replacement can be made according to the original configuration when the existing installation is unchanged.

If the installation has been modified, the new bellows can instead be produced according to the new required length and connection arrangement.

Custom length for an existing DN 100 CF connection

The flange size does not determine the complete bellows assembly.

For example, two installations may both use DN 100 CF connections but require different bellows lengths.

One system may need a short flexible section, while another may need a longer connection because the vacuum chamber is positioned farther away.

The requirement can therefore be defined simply as:

DN 100 CF + required connection length + connection configuration

A drawing or a simple dimensioned sketch is usually enough to start the review.

For existing Leybold vacuum equipment

This approach is useful when the equipment is already installed and the requirement is to replace or reproduce only the flexible vacuum section.

It can also be useful when:

  • The original bellows is no longer readily available
  • The standard replacement is the wrong length
  • The equipment layout has changed
  • A custom installation distance is required
  • The original component needs to be reproduced from a sample or drawing

The goal is not to replace the complete vacuum system.

It is to make the CF bellows required for the existing installation.

Custom CF bellows based on your equipment

If you have a Leybold TURBOLAB or other vacuum system with a CF connection, send us the equipment model, original part number, drawing, dimensions or photos.

We can review the CF connection and required dimensions and determine the appropriate custom bellows configuration.

For available CF sizes, materials, lengths, leak testing and custom configurations, see our CF Vacuum Bellows product page.
